Our students recently had the opportunity to welcome Appalachia Unveiled — Dan and Bailey Smith of West Portsmouth — to the classroom for an exciting, hands-on learning experience!
As part of our current research on fungi, Dan and Bailey shared their expertise as mushroom farmers and brought in several different types of mushrooms for students to dissect, explore, and examine up close. 🔬🍄 Students were able to investigate the different parts of a mushroom, helping them better understand the structures they are learning about and prepare for their upcoming mushroom dioramas.
And, of course, our students had plenty of burning questions! Dan and Bailey patiently answered questions, shared their knowledge, and helped bring our classroom learning to life.
But the learning doesn't stop there! 🍄🔬 Appalachia Unveiled generously provided materials for us to create our very own mini-mushroom lab, where students will be able to observe Lion's Mane mushrooms as they grow and form. What an incredible opportunity to watch science happen right before our eyes!
A HUGE thank you to Dan and Bailey Smith and Appalachia Unveiled for generously sharing your time, expertise, and materials with our students. Your willingness to support hands-on learning and give our students an authentic glimpse into the world of mushroom farming made this experience truly special
We are so grateful for community members who help make learning engaging, memorable, and real! ❤️🍄
