School Counseling Mission Statement

The mission of the counselor at Jasper Elementary is to make comprehensive school counseling services available to all students. The school counselor strives to help all students develop and enhance their academic, social, and personal strengths which provide the foundation of responsible citizenship.

School Counseling Beliefs

The school counselor at Jasper Elementary believes the following about the students:

  1. All students can achieve at high levels.

  2. Every student is valuable and deserves to be treated with dignity and respect.

  3. All students will have access to school counseling services and will be provided direction to outside services when necessary.

  4. All students can expect to feel safe in a nurturing environment.

Responsive Services

  • Consultation: The school counselor will consult with parents, colleagues, and community agencies regarding strategies to support the needs of students and families.

  • Individual and Small-group Counseling: Counseling is provided individually and with small groups for students expressing difficulties dealing with relationships, personal concerns, or normal developmental tasks.

  • Crisis Counseling: Counseling, comfort, and support are provided to students and families facing traumatic situations.

  • Referrals: The school counselor will utilize the referral process for special education services when teachers and intervention specialists suspect that students need specially designed instruction to further succeed in the general curriculum.

System Support

  • Professional Development: The school counselor is involved regularly in updating and sharing new professional knowledge.

  • Collaboration and Teaming: Through consultation, partnering, and collaborating and teaming, the school counselor makes important educational and psychological contributions to the school system.

  • Program Management and Operations: This includes planning and managing tasks needed to direct the student support services for the building.

  • Data Analysis: The school counselor consults with the teachers, the intervention Teacher Based Team (TBT), and the principal to analyze student achievement data and counseling related data to address student needs.
